Camp Update 5-27-2014

YCL RETREAT CHANGE
The YCL retreat scheduled for June 28th has been changed to Monday, July 21st because more YCLs showed interest in coming to camp early on Monday, July 21st to have the YCL Retreat there. YCLs will leave at 2 pm on Monday, July 21st. YCL committees will meet separately between now and July 12th, which is the final YCL meeting before camp.

PERMISSION SLIPS
Please note this change:  Permission slips will be due June 29th instead of Camp Kickoff so we can turn in our bus count.

Ward Roster with T-Shirt and Sweatshirt Sizes:  Due April 26th. You may either fill out the roster by hand or electronically--it's a form-fillable pdf.

Search and Rescue Theme Summary: This is a resource with scriptures and talks describing each daily theme.

Treasure the Word Invitation: (see invitation below--we will provide the cards)

D&C 84:88 is one of President Monson’s favorite scriptures because it brings him comfort in times of need. Because he knows it so well, he shares it often which helps all of us remember and feel the rescuing power of the Savior’s grace.I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand
and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts,
and mine angels round about you, to bear you up.

Before camp, choose and memorize a verse of scripture (or part of a verse) that is meaningful to you. Then, just like President Monson, the words you have treasured and memorized by heart, will come to back to you when you need them.

You will have an opportunity to share your scripture during your ward time at camp. Stake leaders will ask you to share your scripture when they come visit your camp for breakfast and dinner. (Any feedback on this--please let us know.)

Camp Music Instructions:  Camp song, hymns, Shining Trees. One important thing we did not talk about this morning was the camp songbooks. Each ward should have their own songbooks. Please let us know if you need to order more. We will provide a master page with the words to the songs we are singing this year so you can make copies for your songbooks.

Camp Information for Leaders:  Important things to know.

YW Camp Tips (updated):  Tips from experienced camp directors and ward presidents.

Certification Summary:  An overview of certification requirements.

Mia Shalom Policies and Guidelines: Each ward leader is responsible to know the Shalom Guidelines.

Ward Leaders Roster:  You may want to contact the ward you are paired with to plan waterfront games.

Some things to get us thinking . . .

SEARCH AND RESCUE

A person who has experienced true conversion draws upon the power of the Atonement and receives salvation for her own soul, then reaches out to exert a powerful influence upon all those who know her. As you are converted, you will have a desire to share with others what you have learned, and your confidence and ability to testify to others with conviction and power will increase. Bonnie Oscarson, October 2013 General Conference

You cannot lift another soul until you are standing on higher ground than he is. You must be sure, if you would rescue the man, that you yourself are setting the example of what you would have him be. You cannot light a fire in another soul unless it is burning in your own soul. Harold B. Lee April 1973 General Conference

We are surrounded by those in need of our attention, our encouragement, our support, our comfort, our kindness. There are feet to steady, hands to grasp, minds to encourage, hearts to inspire, and souls to save. … We are the Lord’s hands here upon the earth, with the mandate to serve and to lift His children. He is dependent upon each of us. … We are on the Lord’s errand, and therefore we are entitled to the Lord’s help. Thomas S. Monson 2001/2009 General Conference

SEARCH YOUR HEART

TREASURE THE WORD

ACCEPT HIS GRACE

RESCUE WITH LOVE

SEARCH YOUR HEART

If ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?  Alma 5:26

Pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart … Moroni 7:48

·      Where is your heart in the process of conversion?

·      Do you search for the Savior daily?

·      Do you feel Him searching for you?

TREASURE THE WORD

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  3 Nephi 13:21

The Lord has commanded that before we seek to declare His word, we must seek to obtain it. You must become … women of sound understanding by diligently searching the scriptures and by treasuring them up in your hearts. Then as you ask for the Lord’s help, He will bless you with His Spirit and His word. You will have the power of God unto the convincing of men. Elder David McConkie October 2013 General Conference

·      What scriptures or words of the prophets do you treasure?

·      How do they help those who are lost?

ACCEPT HIS GRACE

The Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, … that we have power to do these things.  Jacob 4:7

Have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world, who is mighty to save. Alma 7:41

·      How has the Savior rescued you?

·      How will your personal experience with the Atonement of Jesus Christ help lead others to Him?

 RESCUE WITH LOVE

When you meet someone, treat them as if they were in serious trouble and you will be right more than half the time. Henry B. Eyring April 2004 General Conference

Abraham Lincoln offered this wise counsel: “If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend.” Thomas S. Monson April 2001 April General Conference

·      How can being a true friend help you rescue someone?

·      What have you done for someone today?
