"For Such A Time As This"

Our camp theme this year comes from the Book of Esther in the Old Testament.  Just like Esther was prepared and put in place by the Lord at a time and in a circumstance that would allow her to save her people, our young women were sent to earth at this time and in these circumstances for a purpose.  While individual missions in life may vary, our Prophet has been very clear about one that includes all of us.

“You—my dear extraordinary youth—were sent to earth at this precise time, this most crucial time in the history of the earth, to help gather Israel,” the prophet said. “There is nothing happening on this earth right now that is more important than that. There is nothing of greater consequence. Absolutely nothing. This gathering should mean everything to you. This is the mission for which you were sent to earth.”

We have chosen four daily themes that will hopefully inspire and prepare the girls to fulfill their role as Esther did. Each theme can be related to Esther's mission as well as that of the Savior. Because he chose to carry out his mission, we are enabled to do the work that we were sent to accomplish. Those themes are

Monday: BE ONE
Tuesday: BE BRAVE
Wednesday: BE KIND
Thursday: BE STRONG

A Few Items of Business

  • Monday will be an all Stake day. Since our theme for Monday is Be One, we would really like the girls to be one in the stake. Girls will meet at the Stake Center at 8:00 am and leave at 8:30. After arriving and setting up camp, there is an orientation meeting at 11:00. Then the fun begins!
  • The stake leaders will provide both lunch and dinner on Monday and lunch Tuesday through Thursday. Our YCL's decided on the following menu:

Monday lunch: J Dawgs

Monday dinner: Pasta Bar

Tuesday lunch: Sub sandwich bar and watermelon

Wednesday lunch: Cafe Rio-type salad

Thursday lunch: Asian Chicken (teriyaki, orange or sweet and sour), rice and vegetables or asian salad

  • Please use the link to the right to print out Heber Valley permission slips. They are not the usual ones from the Church. We will need one for every girl and leader who is potentially going to Girls Camp. Please turn those in to the stake YW leaders at our adult camp meeting on March 14.
  • I have had questions from ward YW leaders about cheers, and yes, we are doing them! What would girls camp be without President Peterson singing and dancing for the girls?!

And Finally

PLEASE use your youth camp leaders in all of your planning. For those who were unable to attend the Heber Valley Orientation meeting last Thursday night, the Heber Valley ladies reported to us that they had just had a meeting with the General YW Board. In that meeting, the General YW presidency asked them to relate to us the importance of letting the girls lead. However, we don't abandon them in the process. As leaders, it is our responsibility to counsel with them, train them and teach them how to seek and receive revelation. Then we must trust the Lord to lead and teach the girls His will.
