12 Weeks to go...
I don't want to alarm anyone but we are on a 12 week countdown to YW camp at Heber Valley. :) We are working hard on our preparations, as I know you are also. I want to take just a moment to update you and clarify information I have had questions about. I appreciate all your questions and am happy to address any concerns.
*The boats will be delivered to you the Sunday following spring break, April 12th. They are ready if you are interested in receiving them earlier. They are painted and half assembled, the masts are not connected to the boats. This will make decorating and transporting much easier. The boats are intended to be a blank canvas for the YW to visually display how they feel about the daily themes. They will need names, such as S.S. Embark (the stake boat). Create and enjoy, I am so excited to see all the different finished products. We will gather them close to camp and transport them for you, unless you would prefer otherwise.
*Challenge course, waterfront and art classes (a project so beautifully created and directed by our YW stake president, Diane Mangum) are scheduled and reserved by the stake. We have times assigned to us on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon. We, the stake camp committee, will assign you ward times during these time blocks. The remaining time in-between your ward assignments will be ward time. We will have these assignments to you by mid April. Assignments made by the stake also include: cleaning duties, hosting stake leaders and HVC missionaries for meals; and YCL duties.
*Flag ceremony will take place morning and evening each day. The stake will make assignments to the YCL's to run the flag ceremonies (along with 2nd years doing the actual flag ceremony). Also by late April we will pass on the assignments to you, so that you can help YCL's prepare as needed. You will need to prepare 4 ward cheers, one per day.
*Information we need from you.
-What leader from your ward will be riding the bus?
-Do you have any changes to the roster turned in of those attending camp? Any changes in shirt sizes? You will need to have your ward check-in and check-out form completed and turned in by the camp kick-off.
-What leader will be attending the challenge course training and assigned to attend all of our stake challenge course times?
*All 6th years have been asked to participate in the Path of Righteousness program. If you have any questions please contact Amy Openshaw.
*Please don't forget to contact Meg Peterson with your song choice for Shining Trees. Also please let Meg know if you have any YW in your ward that would like to participate in a special musical number at flag.
*The 4th years will be leaving on their overnighter approx. 3-4:00pm on Tuesday afternoon. They will be welcomed back with fan fair during our opening flag Wednesday morning.
*All YCL's will be on the food committee. Each YCL will receive 2 food assignments. Each lunch will have three assignment groups: food preparation; hostess and serving; and clean-up. We appreciate your help in encouraging and supporting them as they fulfill their leadership assignments.
*YCL retreat is on Saturday, May 2nd, from 10:00am - 4:00pm. We have a wonderful horse riding activity, along with projects we need to complete for camp. Mary Latu is our YCL stake camp committee director, she will be in contact with you regarding a RSVP for the retreat.
Thank you for all that you do! I couldn't be more excited about camp! We have some wonderful speakers, activities and plans for camp this year. It is going to be a wonderful event. Please contact me or Cheri Wallace if you have any questions. Lots of love,
Mary Rencher
Stake camp director
